Rebecca Levy-Cruz, LCSW
child, adolescent, and adult psychotherapy
Located in downtown Scotch Plains, NJ Rebecca Levy-Cruz, LCSW offers therapy in a warm and friendly environment. The office space was created so you or your child can feel comfortable exploring and expressing one's self in a space that is both productive and fun. The goal of therapy is to create a positive relationship and, together, find ways to address and reduce stressors.

What To Expect At Your Visit
Perhaps you or your child are struggling with anxious feelings. Or you have noticed a not-so-positive change in your adolescent. Maybe you feel like you are in constant conflict with your child disrupting the family dynamic. Sometimes children and adolescents (and even adults!) have a difficult time identifying what or why they are experiencing certain emotions or behaviors. I can help you or your child find triggers, the reason they are creating emotional upset, and ways to promote growth and positivity.

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."
Fred Rogers
Services I Offer
Recognizing that no two individuals or families are the same I use a collective approach towards therapy including, but not limited to, methods such as: cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, family therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

Family Therapy
Having strong family relationships is crucial to growth and development. Influenced by John Bowlby’s attachment based theory, I believe that the most important adults in a child’s life should be a part of the therapeutic process. Often times there is a rupture in the relationship that one or both parties were not even aware of. Rebuilding trust and security in relationships is an important part of family therapy.
Play Therapy
Therapy does not have to be all work and no play!! Utilizing different play strategies helps your child develop coping skills and keeps them engaged. Depending on your child or adolescents age there is education and fun using art, books, imaginary play, games, and more!
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Helping clients understand their triggers and patterns of negative thinking often helps reduce stress and anxiety. Together we will learn the ways that thoughts effect behaviors and actions and find the right way to help decrease stressors and improve mood.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Anxious feelings often come from situations that are out of our control. Finding a way to accept and embrace thoughts and feelings opposed to an internal battle often results in improved psychological functioning and self-acceptance.
